The Winn Feline Foundation
The Winn Feline Foundation is a non-profit organization, affiliated with The Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc., which supports health related studies into medical problems affecting cats. Projects funded by The Winn Feline Foundation have provided much of the information that is used every day in all aspects of feline veterinary medicine. The Winn Foundation also strives to improve the health of cats through awareness and communication -- by providing information, guidance, referrals and resources concerning feline health matters to the CFA Board of Directors, breeders, veterinarians, humane/welfare organizations, the media and cat owners -- and by obtaining data and information which will benefit those working to better the health of cats.

Ownership VS. Guardianship - Keep Your Paws Off My Property
"Guardian is a kinder, gentler, nicer word than owner, don't you think"? Think again and again. Guardian is not a nicer, kinder word for owner. Guardian is not a synonym for owner. Guardianship is a strategy to to replace ownership. There is only one outcome for the term guardianship to any local or state laws - and that is to separate you from your dog and/or cat by the successful elimination of your property rights. They - the people and the organizations behind "guardianship" don't want you to have control over the care and feeding your dog - they want to control how you care for your dog and/or cat.
Pedigreed Cats Face Extinction
All distinctive and highly treasured Pedigreed cats may one day become extinct unless the repressive laws currently being proposed in many communities are stopped. Extremist "Animal Rights" groups are calling for the genocide of all Pedigreed dogs and cats by seeking laws to spay and neuter ALL dogs and cats. If ALL pedigreed cats and dogs are spayed and neutered then ALL pedigreed cats and dogs cease to exist in the next 20 years.
The Winn Feline Foundation Report On EARLY SPAY/NEUTER IN THE CAT Please be a responsible pet owner and spay (female) neuter (male) your pet dogs and cats before they reach eight months of age. Please consult with your veterinarian for advice. Also look into low cost spay and neuter clinics in your community for more information.

What is a Breeder?
This is a "poem" about the life of a Breeder of Cats. The original Author is unknown, however Karol Cummins of Wyndcreste Silver Persians tweaked it a bit and hopes it gives the reader some awareness into how dedicated and devoted reputable Breeder are in contrast to puppy or kitten millers, which we all abhor.
Cat Pedigrees CatPedigrees.com is a new service created to provide a way for cat breeders to share their pedigrees with fanciers around the world. We hope to build a collection of searchable databases so that all interested fanciers can thoroughly research the pedigrees of the cats in their breeding programs. Each database is named after the cattery of its contributor. All information has been verified as much as possible however we cannot guarantee its accuracy. Please use the information you obtain at your discretion. The databases represent the fruits of many years of collecting pedigrees. We wish to thank the generosity of the breeders who share their efforts with others by including them on CatPedigrees.com. If you have a database of any breed you would like added to the CatPedigrees.com website, simply email us at webmaster@catpedigrees.com.

Feline Polycystic Kidney Disease
Polycystic Kidney Disease is an inherited kidney disease that has been found in Persian/Exotic cats. Feline Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) has been reported sporadically in the literature since 1967, but actual study into this renal disease did not begin until 1990. In 1990 an affected female Persian was referred to the Ohio State University teaching hospital with symptoms of renal failure. Offspring of this female were used to start a colony and begin research into this condition.
Dr. Leslie Lyon's research on Feline Polycystic Kidney Disease
The genetic mutation that causes PKD in Persian cats has been identified by the feline genetics laboratory of Dr. Leslie Lyons at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Several funding agencies have supported the research of the Lyons' laboratory, including, the Winn Feline Foundation, the Waltham Foundation, the UC Davis Center for Companion Animal Health and the NIH - National Center for Research Resources. The project's success was highly dependent on the continued collaborations with radiologist David S. Biller, DVM, Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Ultrasound assistance was provided by radiologist Eric Hergessell, DVM, UC Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Radiological & Surgical Sciences. A team effort from the Lyons' laboratory ensured the projects success, which included the research efforts provided by Heather R. Roberts, PhD., Amy E. Young, MS., Monika J. Lipinski, HyungChul Rah, and Robert A. Grahn, PhD. The mutation was identified by Carolyn A. Erdman, MS. Sequencing of the full-length genomic clone of feline PKD1 was provided by the Oklahoma Sequencing Center, Bruce A. Roe, PhD., University of Oklahoma. Most importantly, we greatly appreciate the cat breeders who participated in our PKD ultrasound screening clinics. The project had rapid success due to the overwhelming enthusiasm of the Persian breeders and their continued cooperation.
Hopalong's Legacy
Hopalong Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization whose mission is to eliminate the euthanasia of cats and dogs through rescue, spay/neuter and education programs. In 1999, Hopalong passed away at the ripe old age of 14. In his career as surrogate grandpa to many a homeless feline, Hopalong helped untold numbers of little kittens who would otherwise have faced euthanasia due to pet overpopulation. We miss Hopalong, but his legacy lives on.
